How to combat tired eyes..

October 21, 2019

Tired, puffy eyes? Dark circles? Unfortunately, in our busy lives, this is all too common for many of us. Whatever the cause, we all want the solution.

So here are a mixture of our top tips, both natural and product based, to get those tired eyes sparkly and de-puffed in no time!

1. Get more sleep!

I know, this seems impossible - what about your long work day with a commute either side? Or what about the fact that baby wakes up every 2 hours in the night? But getting as much sleep as possible will really help your eyes stay sparkling, healthy and keep those bags away. It's also important to sleep in a cool, well ventilated room, as waking up hot and stuffy will only encourage the 'puff'!

2. Drink more water

Drinking water is key to keeping your skin, including that under eye area, hydrated. This in turn will reduce puffiness and dark circles. Try to carry a reusable bottle of water with you at all times, so its a little easier to keep hydrated rather than making conscious trips to the kitchen for a glass of water.

3. Eye gels

Now for the products, as sometimes natural remedies just aren't enough! We love Skin Iceland's hydro cool firming eye gels. 10 minutes with these bad boys and your under eyes will be visibly lighter and less puffy, and you'll feel rather more awake too! Cruelty free, vegan and multi award winning, you can't go wrong for a pack of 4 pairs for £14!

4. Eye rollers

A new discovery for us is E.L.F cosmetics, a totally cruelty free, paraben free and vegan brand, that is wonderfully affordable for the amazing quality of products they produce. We have discovered the Eye Refresh under eye roller from E.L.F, which brightens and refreshes the under eye area to alleviate under eye puffiness and dark circles. Simply roll on and allow to sink in.

Its an absolute steal at £4.50..!

5. Eye cream

A well moisturised under eye area will definitely help with puffiness and dark circles, as well as preventing fine lines and wrinkles. It also provides the perfect base for concealer application, as a dry under eye area will cause product to stick and look flakey, and contribute to drying your eyes out further. We love the Pai Echium and Argan gentle eye cream, which leaves the under eye area well moisturised without any irritation, and is the perfect base for concealer as it is hydrating without being oily; you don't get that separation of product that can occur with some eye creams. It's a bit more pricey at £32, but the tube lasts a surprisingly long time, a little goes a long way, and they are leading the way in vegan, cruelty free skin care, as they are also organic soil association certified, have recyclable (and some biodegradable) packaging, and are very socially responsible with their various schemes and associations. 6. Concealer

Finally, you may want a little extra help to totally banish any darkness under the eyes if you're heading out (though in this weather, pjs and hot chocolate on the sofa is much more appealing..) The key to a great concealer is only to go as heavy as you need, not as heavy as you think you need; excess product will build up and crease and will never stay in place all day, even with powdering. It is also important not to go too light; we've all seen that getting over excited with the 'touche eclat' leads to white panda eyes in photos, and - spoiler alert - its not actually a concealer! We recommend Charlotte Tilbury's retoucher pen, as you can use this both under the eyes for a natural but good coverage concealer, and also on other imperfections and blemishes all over the face. Her cruelty free formula blends so nicely into the skin, and is easy to top up during the day if needed; the small pen-like tool fits in any handbag! £25,
